Insurers, doctors at odds over 'concierge' care Health insurance behemoths UnitedHealthcare and CIGNA are speaking out against concierge medicine, claiming that the annual retainers charged for such care violate contract terms. UnitedHealthcare has dropped four Houston area physicians from its network because of concierge services. Healthcare switch causing headaches in Philadelphia If retired state employees in the Philadelphia area don't choose one of three health plans by Friday, they will soon find themselves forced into a plan that isn't accepted by most nearby hospitals. The shift from traditional Medicare to a private insurer is an attempt by the state of Pennsylvania to save $94 million annually. Area hospitals say the plan will pay them less and provide less care for patients, and two unions representing state employees have objected to the plan. [Read More]
